  We are twenty-one friends in their seventies who stayed in 2024, during the first week of September, at the "Grandes Chaumes", in the Fournil, the Relais and the Nid, which can be three totally independent lodgings but which can also form a single large gîte thanks to connecting doors... The “Paris-Montparnasse ➜ La Rochelle” TGV stops at Surgères station, 3.3 km from the gîtes. We were very well received by Gaëlle and Frédéric JOURDAIN. Generous little touches awaited our arrival: cakes, bouquets of flowers, fruit from their orchard, the possibility of plugging in a rechargeable car for free... We were offered a guided tour of the premises. The rare, inevitable small technical problems were promptly and perfectly resolved by the owners, who live not far away... These lodges are well equipped; the cooks in our group have rarely had such a complete set of kitchen utensils; and we spent a very pleasant week with friends. In small groups, we took a dip in the heated swimming pool at Le Fournil, short hikes on marked circuits, a game of golf, a picturesque boat trip on the canals of the Marais Poitevin, a visit to towns and villages nearby. 'around, etc. The only small legitimate constraint is that selective sorting is stricter and more complex than in other French regions; but the laudable effort that was asked of us here is, of course, an environmental necessity... The final inventory was drawn up with the kind clemency of the owners, both for the mug and the knife unintentionally broken and for the tables and chairs moved and, wrongly, not returned by us to their original places...   Excellent stay at the Gîte des Grandes Chaumes and more particularly at the Gîte Le Nest. (reservation for couple and child aged 3). Very good discussions before our arrival, warm welcome, clean, comfortable, well-equipped gîte with a large, well-landscaped and equipped garden. The cottage is perfectly maintained and the owners are keen to make your stay perfect. Peaceful and somewhat remote place for a quiet stay. The owners are available, accommodating and we were welcomed with a pretty bouquet of flowers and local homemade pastries. In addition, a detailed welcome booklet on the cottage, activities, services and good advice has been made available to us. Finally, the equipment, accessories and bedding are of good quality and the owners are able to adapt perfectly to our needs. Please note that the gîtes have recently been renovated. Having had the chance to visit the gîte adjoining ours, I was able to see that the owners do everything possible to adapt as best as possible to their customers. (Possibility of connecting the gîtes for group holidays, accessible to PRMs....) In short, we had an excellent weekend and recommend the Gite des Grandes Chaumes 100%.
