      A jewel of Romanesque art

The true emblem of Aulnay-de-Saintonge is undoubtedly its Saint-Pierre church. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this 12th-century architectural marvel is a masterpiece of Poitevin Romanesque art. Its sculpted capitals, majestic vaults and corner chains make it an unmissable place for art and history lovers.

      A village steeped in history

Beyond its church, Aulnay has a rich historical heritage. You can stroll through the medieval streets, discover the remains of the old castle or visit the city's archaeological museum. The town is also located on one of the routes to Compostela, the Via Turonensis, which is why many pilgrims like to stop there.

      Visitors appreciate Aulnay:

      • Its surrounding nature such as along the Boutonne or in the forest.

When you arrive in Aulnay de Saintonge, to find the town hall, it's simple, head towards the tower of the old castle, it can be seen from afar. The square in front of the town hall is welcoming, with plenty of parking available. Enjoy your visit to this very welcoming little town which is home to a Romanesque marvel, its church.
