The city, the most northerly of the department, has developed since the 1980s thanks to its spring water drawn from the depths of the earth. This water has made it possible to create thermal baths located in a troglodyte site, a former cathedral stone quarry, but also a complex and fun area in the West Indies and allows for district heating. A casino has also opened. The city, surrounded by hills is crossed by the Seugne. Built on a rocky outcrop, the castle is the emblem of the city. The original building suffered the assaults of the 100 Years War, it was transformed in the 15th century. It now houses the town hall and the sub-prefecture. In the historic center, the Romanesque church of Saint-Gervais, whose scenographic square evokes the Merovingian necropolis discovered in 2009, adjoins the Baltard-style halls. The former Carmelite convent, to the west of the city, houses the cultural center. In summer, a leisure center, warmed by excess heat from the thermal power station, with a fine sandy beach is a delight for young and old. The Maison de l'énergie explains the history of geothermal energy. Fully restored and working mills allow you to understand with the millers the manufacture of flour or walnut oil.
