The Grand Cru of Charente-Maritime
Fabrice Papin embodies this new generation of dynamic French winegrowers who dare to break free from the greatest terroirs of his department, Charente-Maritime. On the edge of the Gironde estuary, on its right bank, and facing the prestigious Médoc appellations, he tamed a small family vineyard in Saint-Bonnets-sur-Gironde, originally dedicated to the production of grapes for distillation and the production of cognac.
In 2015, the Elise cuvée (100% Chardonnay) was bottled. It is a revelation proving the ability of the place to produce fine wines. It doesn't take much more to convince Fabrice Papin to develop the estate towards a wider range of wines. From two plots planted 20 years ago, he decided to vinify a vintage of Merlot in the greatest Bordeaux style.
This 2016 is the marker and the real detonator of the birth of the estate and the signature brought by Fabrice Papin. Remarkably elegant, this wine, baptized ExtraOrdinaire, demonstrates a finesse of tannins and an expression of fruit worthy of the greatest wines of Saint-Émilion. Its 18-month aging in barrels refines the tanon, melts the structure and develops a complex aromatic palette without lacking in length, it's stunning!
Marketed after three to five years of aging at the estate, it arrives on the tables of restaurateurs when it is fully mature for consumption. Already referenced on some starred restaurants in the region such as Le Gabriel in Bordeaux or at Coutanceau in La Rochelle, Le Petit Marand Estate is on the way to becoming the essential cru of Charente-Maritime.
