    • In the 17th century, King Louis 14th’s wish is to build the biggest naval dockyard of the atlantic coast to reinforce his power over the land and the sea.

Rochefort’s destiny is quickly decided. In 1666, shops, workshops, warehouses, dry docks and even the first school of naval medicine are built in Rochefort.

Created out of nothing, nestling in a loop of the river Charente, the town keeps its grid street layout and almost breathes a perfume of adventure and exotism, where great expeditions were prepared. Head to the “Arsenal des Mers” to experience your own naval adventure !

Step into shoes of an engineer, sailor, topman, captain or inventor on your own expedition. A single ticket gets you into the Royal Rope Factory, the frigate Hermione, the National Marine Museum and the Accro-Mâts. If you like walking or cycling, go on “les chemins de Charente” to the Transborder bridge, the last one in France, further on , to the “Station de Lagunage”, discover this safety haven for migratory birds.

The traditional French market is held in the main street 3 times a week. Aromas and hunger pangs will guide you to the right spot ! Rochefort, is also the most important thermal health centre of the West of France. Treat yourself to a spa therapy ! Welcome to the tourist office.

Our friendly team of knowledgeable staff can provide information and advice on a wide range of subjects to help you plan your trip and to share tips to discover Rochefort Ocean.

Rochefort is a naval city build by Louis XIV and it is up to today the reason to visit. The rebuild replica of the Hermione gives you the real feeling how it would have been decades ago.

Great customer service! The man who served us was able to answer all our questions and when he didn't have what we needed, he recommended us to another location where we could get what we wanted. He recommended the Fort Boyard cruise to Ile d'Aix for a day and we did not regret going - it was fabulous and worth every euro. We were well equipped with a map of the city and places of interest were highlighted out for easy reading.
